One of the most controversial faces of recent times, the 27th President of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), the dismissal of Pahlaj Nihalani his seat provoked a relief for many, especially people in the film industry.
With the amount of bad reputation Nihalani had gained in recent years as CBFC supreme, this government measure was not a surprise.
His actions, his decisions and especially his statements about movies and scenes, without thinking about the social consequences, have made this spell for him.
Movies like udta Punjab lipstick under my burka and most recently Harry found Jab Sejal are some of the many movies that have fought hard under his tenure.
However, with the poet-publicist letriste Prasoon Joshi taking the place of Nihalani, the film industry in particular, it feels’ acche aayenge din.
Veteran director Shyam Benegal talked about this change of power and especially Joshi. Speaking to Firstpost, he said: “I know Prasoon. He is sensitive, he is a good poet, not ordinary.
It is also a lyrical film and business well enough like movies. He also directed one of the best advertising agencies in the country.
I am pleased that they have someone with good grades, I am happy with their choice, but being allowed to make decisions is a different matter. ”
After asking questions about the Shyam Benegal committee report, the author said: “I have nothing to say about it. It was time enough to have sent the report (April 2016).
I was in contact with the ministry and now I do not remember the next business day – Wednesday, August 16. There were some days when he called me that they were still studying the report.
The report is related to the Cinematography Act of 1952 and called for some modifications in the law that was initiated by the government. Rounds must be made and submitted to Parliament.
Director Ashoke Pandit also added to the same idea by saying that Joshi “identifies filmmakers and movie buffs today.”
He also spoke of good expectations in the film industry with the inclusion of Joshi and Smriti Irani sitting as Chief I & B.
Madhur Bhandarkar, who had to undergo many questions about the release of his latest film, Indu Sarkar, also applauded the inclusion of Joshi and sang praises to Indian Government.
He told Firstpost: “Prasoon Joshi is an advertisement, not an evolved person and has a different perspective, so I really hope positivity.
Yes, they should quickly apply Shyam Benegal’s recommendations for better change.
But Prasoon and the appointment of certain Board members, is a positive step of the Government of India. I applaud the Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Smriti Irani and Rajyavardhan Rathore ji ji. “
